Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between automatic vectorization and Astacus' methods?
Astacus works mainly using manual methods. Although thoretically promising, all our dreams and aspirations of automating these time-consuming tasks have worked poorly in practice. Naturally, we always explore the possibilitiy of using various tools to render production more effective, and we also develop methods of our own, but still most of the work is manual and must be performed by skilled operators.

We have previously let consultants vectorize some of our material, but were not pleased with the result. What can Astacus do better?
In order to perform well when vectorizing, being able to use the program (e.g. AutoCAD, Point, Inventor, MapInfo) properly is not sufficient. The operator must also be intimately familiar with the work at hand, as well as the customers' demands on the digitized data. Astacus uses Swedish project managers greatly experienced in their respective fields, working closely with the customers. The operators are correspondingly divided up into specialised sections in order to ensure that all those involved possess the necessary skills.

How small may the projects be for Astacus to still be a profitable solution to our digitizing needs?
Due to our Internet based communications all projects, big and small, may be inexpensively digitized, often with astounding speed, even though production takes place in India. Small orders (1-20 designs/maps) are usually delivered within a week.

As the work is done in India, how about the characters unique to our language?
Most projects contain some degree of written information. Therefore, we work using a keyboard layout appropriate to the project in question, whether it be Swedish, Norwegian, German etc.

How detailed does my project specification have to be?
Astacus' Swedish project managers will, in cooperation with you, extract the information necessary to the project.
